MUD’S SUSTAINABILITY WORKSHOP SERIES

Since 1981, MUD workshops have provided Missoulians with hands-on experiences in self-reliance. Our workshops teach topics that help you live lighter on the land and lighter on your budget. Past topics include Beer Brewing, Cheese Making, Small Engine Repair, Basic Auto Mechanics, Alternative Energy, Tiling, a Start-to-Finish Gardening Series, and much more! Ranging in skill level from introductory to highly skilled, our workshops pair you with local experts who demonstrate skills and empower you to master them yourself.

Tree Pruning Workshop
March 14th 12-3 pm

Learn the skills you need to effectively prune your own trees and save yourself the expense of calling in a landscaper or arborist. Whether you want to clean out dead branches, increase your fruit production, or just create a more visually pleasing tree or shrub, MUD Workshop instructor Mark Vander Meer will teach how to do it yourself the right way. This workshop will be held at Garden City Harvest’s Orchard Gardens.

Building the Hive Workshop – Postponed
March 28th 1-3 pm

Join us as we demonstrate how to build different styles of bee hives and compare the costs for each. One version will be built from a purchased kit and the other will be built from scratch. Participants will leave with the instructions to build their own beehives at home.

This is the third of a multi-part beekeeping series that will run throughout 2020 as we implement bees at the MUD site. The workshop will be held in the Home Resource Community Room and at the MUD site.

Vermicomposting Workshop – Postponed
April 4th 1-4 pm

Join Caitlyn Lewis of Soil Cycle to learn all about how to use worms to create nutrient-rich compost for your yard or garden. You may choose to attend the workshop for instruction about vermicomposting only OR sign up to make your own vermicomposting bin to take home at the end of the day.

Those who choose to make a vermicomposting bin will be supplied with all the materials necessary to create the bin during the workshop – including handmade worm bags and all the lumber necessary to construct the sturdy wooden frame. These materials cost $105 per bin, hence the higher price tag of this workshop. We will prepare materials for 10 participants to make bins, so sign up soon!
