The MUDs Tool Library, established in 1989, has over 2,500 tools ready to be put to work improving your home, garden, yard, car…you name it! Just like the books in a library, all of MUD’s tools are shared by our members, so please take great care of them.

Inventory
Both MUD members and non-members can browse our online tool inventory by clicking the link above. If your membership is current and you are having trouble logging into your account, contact us at tools@mudproject.org.
Please remember that tools can only be checked out and returned during Tool Library hours.
Rules
At MUD, we are proud that our Tool Library has become such a staple for DIY-ers in the Missoula community. In order to continue providing a high quality resource, we ask that all new MUD members review and sign our Tool Use Policy.
1.) ONLY MUD MEMBERS MAY BORROW TOOLS FROM THE LIBRARY.
Tools are for the personal use of our members only, not commercial projects and/or contractors.
2.) MEMBERS MAY ONLY CHECK OUT AND RETURN TOOLS DURING TOOL LIBRARY HOURS
Tool Library hours are Monday and Friday, 4pm-7pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Tools left outside the MUD office can be stolen or damaged. Members who fail to follow this rule may be charged to replace tools and may lose their borrowing privileges.
3.) TO AVOID LATE FEES, RETURN TOOLS ONE WEEK AFTER CHECKOUT
The exception is high demand tools, which are due back the next shift to make them available for more members.
4.) TO RENEW YOUR TOOLS, CALL OR EMAIL THE TOOL LIBRARY OFFICE BEFORE THEY ARE DUE
5.) LATE TOOLS WILL INCUR LATE FEES
The majority of tools accrue late fees at a rate of $1 per Tool Library shift. However, tools that have a checkout fee accrue late fees at a faster rate. For example, a tool that costs $3 to checkout would accrue late fees at a rate of $3 per Tool Library shift.
6.) TOOLS SHOULD BE RETURNED CLEAN.
Please remove dirt, grass, dust, sawdust, plaster, paint, or other residue from your tools so that they are clean for the next user. Some tools can be ruined without proper cleaning. You may be charged a cleaning or repair fee for failure to clean your tools.
7.) DAMAGED TOOLS MUST BE REPORTED TO LIBRARIANS UPON RETURN
If you damage a tool through careless or improper use, you may be charged 50%-100% of the cost to replace or repair the tool.
8.) TOOLS OVERDUE MORE THAN ONE MONTH WILL BE CONSIDERED STOLEN
We will work with local law enforcement to recover stolen tools.
Tool Checkout Fees
Your MUD Membership allows you to check out the majority of tools in the Tool Library for free. However, some of our tools require high levels of maintenance or have associated fuel costs and therefore require an additional fee to checkout. User fees allow us to keep these tools in working condition.

Tool Donations
We will gratefully accept gently used or new tools to add to our tool library inventory. For more information on what we can accept and how to donate tools, review our Tool Donation Guidelines. Since we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all donations to the tool library are tax deductible. Please do not drop off tool donations outside of tool library hours unless prior arrangements have been made. You can also check out our Amazon Wishlist for tools we’d like to add to our inventory!
