Looking to really get your hands MUDdy? Join the MUD Board of Directors! Whether you like playing in the dirt, planning events, working behind the scenes, or just want to learn more about the ins and outs of the tool library, we could use your help. Board members usually volunteer 5 to 10 hours per month and will help guide MUD into its next decade of providing tools and skills to the Missoula community. Interested? Tool Library Volunteer
Support the day-to-day operations of the Tool Library while helping members feel confident in their projects.
- Greet and assist members during open hours
- Help locate and check out tools
- Troubleshoot basic project questions
- Perform light tool maintenance (cleaning, sharpening, organizing)
- Maintain a clean, welcoming workspace
Ideal for: Handy folks, problem-solvers, people who enjoy teaching others
Suggested Commitment:
- 2–4 hour shifts
- 1 shift/week (or 2–4 per month)
Workshop Support Volunteer
Help bring MUD’s Sustainability Workshops to life by supporting instructors and participants.
- Set up and break down workshop spaces
- Assist participants during hands-on activities
- Prepare and organize materials/tools
- Help create a welcoming, inclusive environment
Ideal for: People who enjoy events, learning environments, and community education
Suggested Commitment:
- 2–5 hours per workshop
- Flexible / sign-up based
Large Event Volunteer
Be part of MUD’s biggest community gatherings and help create memorable, smooth-running events.
- Event setup (tents, tables, signage)
- Greeting and directing attendees
- Supporting activity stations
- Cleanup and breakdown
Ideal for: Energetic, social people who enjoy fast-paced environments
Suggested Commitment:
- 3–6 hours per event
- Occasional / seasonal
Tabling & Outreach Volunteer
Represent MUD in the community and help spread awareness about programs and resources.
- Staff outreach tables at community events
- Share information about MUD programs
- Engage with community members and answer basic questions
- Help track interest and contacts
Ideal for: Friendly communicators, ambassadors, storytellers
Suggested Commitment:
- 2–4 hours per event
- Flexible / sign-up based
Garden Aide Volunteer
Support MUD’s gardens as living examples of sustainability and community care.
- Weeding, planting, harvesting
- Basic irrigation troubleshooting
- General garden maintenance
- Supporting garden-based workshops or tours
Ideal for: People who enjoy outdoor work and hands-on sustainability
Suggested Commitment:
- 2–3 hour sessions
- Weekly or biweekly (seasonal)
Administrative Support Volunteer
Help keep MUD running smoothly behind the scenes.
- Shredding, organizing, and filing
- Postering and outreach distribution
- Data entry or light office support
- Preparing materials for programs/events
Ideal for: Detail-oriented folks who like structured tasks
Suggested Commitment:
- 1–3 hour shifts
