Intro to Permaculture Design I : Winter – The Seeds of Change
March 19 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Please join us March 19th for the inaugural workshop in our Introduction to Permaculture Design Series, part of MUD’s 2017 Backyard Sustainability Workshop Series.
This course, The Seeds of Change will present the foundations of Permaculture design as science, art, and as a lifestyle. Permaculture will be presented as an analytical guidance system for creating and implementing solutions through intentional observation and action, working with-in nature and with the rhythm of seasonal cycles, in order to create sustainable individual and societal relationships with people, planet and profits.
Curriculum will cover the 12 Principles, 3 Ethics, and 7 Layers of Permaculture; introduce methods for observing and understanding patterns, energy-flows and system relations, cycles and seasons; site mapping and design strategies, for annual and perennial plant-based Permaculture in an urban setting; an introduction to management of soils, water and light; Agro-ecology and landscape-level analysis to identify and manage microclimates and edge effects, in order to increase productive potential and diversify the number of species and ecological relationships present within the system.
Following the presentation, students are invited to share ideas and information regarding Permaculture as well as participate in the process of planning and planting for MUD’s 2017 Gardens, with discussion topics including applications and practices of seed saving, plant breeding, planting etiquette and garden design strategies, as we plant seedling trays for MUD’s Greenhouse.
You can register for one or more workshops by paying through MUD’s Square Marketplace.
Each Individual Workshop is $20 MUD members, $40 nonmembers. Or, sign up for the whole series to receive $5 off per workshop. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you need a payment plan option for the whole series.
